Have you always been taught that you are not able to take insurance in your business? Well, we have finally broken that 'myth' and uncovered how it can be done.
Working in the industry of alternative treatment can be very rewarding yet challenging at the same time. Most providers in this field are often viewed as less capable or not quite as a functioning part of the viability of ones health. Yet, as time progresses alternative treatment providers are becoming more recognized for their areas of expertise and how helpful they are at contributing to the maintenance of a person's overall well being.
Do You Take Insurance, Yet?
Noticing this trend change and listening to more people wanting to utilize the services offered by alternative treatment providers, the insurance world has begun to open the doors for better acceptance. In doing so, an individual now has greater options on how they want to handle their health issues and making sure that these options are more cost effective at the same time.
As an alternative treatment provider you may still have some obstacles of working with health insurance carriers. Such as, not being able to contract directly with them, thereby being considered an in-network provider. Yet, there are other possible solutions. While some providers, such as chiropractors and acupuncturist may contract directly with the insurance carriers (with limitations on which services they can provide, of course), all others may now work with three auxiliary networks established that in turn work with the major insurance carriers. This will now allow alternative treatment providers to say - 'Yes, I do take insurance!'
Additional options that an alternative treatment provider may want to consider to grow their practice would be:
- Working as an out-of-network provider (pre-auth usually required)
- Working with auto injury claims (NO contracting required)
- Working with worker's compensation claims (contracting required)
- Accessing individuals HSA, HRA, MSA and FSA account (great resource!)
There is
no network to join when accessing most HSA, HRA and FSA-which the IRS has expanded on what types of services can be covered by these type of accounts. (
IRS Pub. 502 - Medical and Dental Expenses) Services such as; chiropractor, acupuncturist, osteopath, therapy and weight loss programs to name a few, can be reimbursed under these type of accounts.
